August comes to a close and with it, Nora Ephron season is upon us, aka Autumn. The end of a season demands a recap and if you are like me and love to learn new places to check out, look no further. Here are some of my favorite places in California I visited this summer, and which ones you should totally check out too!
Or as close to it as you can get in Southern California, which is apparently in Pasadena.

I turned 24 this weekend. A very strange feeling as I told my cousin, I still feel like it was just yesterday we were playing Hide the Wii remotes on my 13th birthday but here we are. My mother likes to say I have Peter Pan syndrome so the past few years of birthdays realizing I am, in fact, growing up have been very bittersweet. Because I adore my birthday. I do birthday weekends, birthday weeks, and birthday months, but this year the idea of getting older felt icky so I spent the month sulking. (Cuz yes there was a reason my degree in ‘drama’ aka Theatre is fitting. HA)
So my loving roommates (my parents 😛) took it upon themselves to make my birthday great.
August slipped away faster than I could even think of getting out a post about all my adventures. The second I thought I had time I unexpectedly received a full-time job offer and within 48 hours was thrown into my first adult job. So it has been a busy past few weeks with lots of adjustments.
I got to spend three weeks in the summer spending time with 2 of my best friends from college and it was epic I thought I would take you along on a trip down memory lane.
The Beyond Van Gogh: Immersive Experience is an exhibit that is currently happening around the country. The exhibit’s purpose is to show the artwork of Vincent Van Gogh in a way never experienced before. With the use of projection and original scoring, you can view 300 of Van Gogh’s art as though you are in the paintings.
My uncle bought us tickets for my birthday last year, but it didn’t come to San Diego until this month. I thought it was worth the wait.
You begin in a room filled with projected information depicting Van Gogh’s life and includes quotes as well as empty frames creating the walkways. They are also a fun photo opportunity.
Then the best part and the reason to go: the Projection Room.
Lake Tahoe is one of my favorite places. I have been going up there since I was 2. My grandparents have a house and I would always go spend up to 3 weeks with them in the summer, doing swim lessons, being on the lake, and winning library reading contests.
Did you know Lake Tahoe is the second deepest lake in the U.S? It has a ton of cool history and was even frequented by Frank Sinatra.
The lake goes across the California and Nevada border so it’s easy to spend the day going back and forth between states depending on what adventures you are having.
There are apparently a ton of cool trails for hiking but as I am not at all a hiker, I have compiled a list of fun things to do that do NOT involve hiking.
