Getting my Style Reimagined

If you’ve been following along since my college days you know I’ve had my friend style me a few times before. They are always such fun posts. Since it’s been quite a few years since we’ve done one, and I’m feeling creatively uninspired with my current wardrobe, we thought it was the perfect time to bring it back!

She created a few different mood boards to describe the styles she thinks could fit me best. Then we went through my wardrobe using the Indyx App so she could see everything without me having to hold it up to the facetime. So useful!

Here is what she came up with. Five different styles using only things I already own.

First the visions, then the execution, and finally how I felt.

Boho

“I feel like the boho trends are coming back just in a slightly different way. No more printed shirts and “hipster” type skirts, This is more feminine with ruffled and tapered skirts, knits, even some satin like fabric shirts and tanks.”

Outfit 1: We have a floral tiered skirt, with a cropped textured sweater, complimented with floral cowgirl boots and a bandana. I like the concept of this outfit but not quite how it all paired together. I feel that the weight of the sweater is too heavy for how lightweight this skirt is, making it feel a bit off. If I had a light weight sweater I think this outfit could be a winner.

Outfit 2: A Mini Tiered Puff Sleeve dress with tall black boots and a fun fringe embroidered vest. This outfit was much more outside my comfort zone compared to the first one. I can’t see myself wearing this as an everyday style outfit, but line dancing with my fiancé? Absolutely.

Cottage Core

“I was thinking long skirts, ruffles, dress shirts under dresses, earthy colors, but mostly focused on light and “fluffy” type dressings. I also think for these types of clothes, floral prints are always a vibe and bandana wraps are nice accessories.”

Only one outfit for this category. I asked her to style this blue reformation top for one of the categories. I love it, but I never reach for it. Styled over my white dress and paired with my cowgirl boots again. I love the feminine details of each item. I really like this outfit overall, but I’m wondering what it would look like if I had different shoes. Something in a true white like the dress instead of the off white.

Ralph Lauren Effect

“The ‘Ralph Lauren effect,’ straight jeans that are more loose (no skinny jeans!), collared shirts and jersey knit sweaters around shoulders. Light makeup and a bandana around the neck is always a classy finish.”

Outfit 1: A linen jumpsuit over a collared shirt paired with kitten heels.

Outfit 2: Same collared shirt, green tailored pants, accessorized with a scarf around the neck and the kitten heels once more.

When she first told me how to pair these two outfits I was really skeptical about how it was going to turn out. These are all pieces that do not get a lot of wear from me, but I LOVE how they both came out. So super cute. Did not think the scarf would look good at all but how pleasantly surprised I was.

Scandi Style

“Think of the coolest girls in Copenhagen. I love the idea of layering dress pants with knit cardigans, t-shirts, collared striped blouses, etc. They really do such a good job laying pieces which make outfits look so effortless and fun, and a more feminine “casual” style.”

Outfit 1: Lace top over a textured puff sleeved collared shirt. Paired with jeans, sneakers, and a green baseball hat for a pop of collar.

Outfit 2: The same Lace top in a different color, over my Lauren Conrad flowered collar shirt, and wrap denim vest. Paired with knee hight brown boots.

Never ever have I paired the lace tops over another shirt but these have quickly become a high prized choice from my wardrobe. I love how the layered tops elevate the look with the denim bottoms without feeling too dressy. Feminine and comfy and just such a look.

“Definitely Owns a Yacht”

“The secret to this is the accessories for sure, always keep the outfit simple, but accessorize. It’s simple yet eye catching, down to the hair and makeup.”

Black wrap collared dress, with the knee high black boots and styled with sunnies and the scarf tied around the shoulders.

I have to admit, I love everything about this outfit. No notes. I hardly reach for this dress but love it and am so glad I found a way to style it to its fullest potential.

The Favorites:

Her favorite outfit: The Scandi with the vest, skirt and collared white long sleeve.

Her style choice for me: I’d say the style that suits you best is the classic Ralph Lauren girl look! So chic !

My Favorite Outfit: Also The Scandi with the vest, skirt and collared white long sleeve!

My Style Choice: Scandi Style. I did NOT think this was going to be my favorite of the bunch when she showed me the mood boards. Once we started pairing things that I actually own into outfits I realized that this felt the most like an elevated version of what I typically wear.

The Runner Up: The “Definitely Owns a Yacht” outfit. I love love love how it looks, it just feels so out of my comfort zone for an every day outfit. Which is why it’s got demoted to the runner up style choice.

Final Thoughts:

This was such a fun post to create. I love when other people style me, so I don’t have to think about it haha. It was a great way to get out of my rut of styling my own closet. She definitely saved me from spontaneously purchasing a bunch of new clothes, and I can’t wait to see which pieces I use a lot more now. Let me know if you enjoyed this and if I should have her do another styling post with me soon.

How do you think she did? Which was your favorite??

Tell me what you’ve been loving to wear lately!
