Snail mail is a dying art, but it shouldn’t be. One of my favorite things is to write and receive letters. There is something so special about getting a handwritten note from someone you care about. In our age of technology receiving handwritten letters are pretty rare. In the past few years, I have really started to love writing letters to people. It is fun to send unexpected letters to hopefully brighten someone’s day.
I hear a lot of people say they don’t write letters because they don’t know what to write. The beauty of the letters is there isn’t a wrong way to do it. Maybe you want to send a postcard style, or even just a letter telling the person you saw something that reminded you of them.
Snail mail has so many great things attached to them. My favorite thing to do in my letters is to find fun stationery to write on. I have some Harry Potter letters which are good to use for short notes. I bought a whole package of blank ‘paper bag’ envelopes so I could use whatever paper I want. Amazon has tons of stationery kits for really cheap, but you can write letters on your standard lined paper or even on something more fun like scrapbooking paper.
One of my absolute favorite things to do is draw something on the front of the envelope where I address it. It adds a bit of my own creativity and personality to the letters I am sending. I like to personalize each envelope front specific to the person I am sending the letter to,
Another fun thing about snail mail is that you can send more than just notes. I love creating little care packages to send out. With things like candies or nail polish, or even polaroid pictures. Pinterest has a ton of fun ideas for snail mail. Such as mail tag where you send your designated person a task(s)/or questions that they have to fulfill and mail back to you with something else for you to do. It is a great way to keep in touch with people. Tasks can include things like finding a leaf they like or listening to a specific song and sending your feedback.
Things you can send along in a letter are things like photos, recipes, and even fortune cookie sayings. Getting creative is the fun of it. Nothing is too small or too silly to send as snail mail. Even some frog stickers are great choices. I think snail mail is a great way to show someone you care and are thinking about them and I think we should all do it more often.
I challenge you to send someone you care about a bit of snail mail and let me know in the comments if you did anything special to it!
